A Filsol solar water heating system is designed to save you money and help the environment by converting the natural sunlight that hits the solar panels into heat in your hot water cylinder.
The solar water heating system will work alongside your boiler (or alternative heating source) to provide you with free, clean energy to heat a significant amount of your total hot water requirements throughout the year.
The Filsol system is supplied with all the components needed for a complete solar water heating system, including solar hot water cylinders, controllers, system connections and hydraulic accessories.
The key benefits of a Filsol solar water heating system are as follows:
-
Hot water throughout the year. The solar system works all year round, and can be expected to provide most of your hot water between April and September. Solar heated water will also be provided throughout the winter months although you will need to use your boiler (or alternative heating source) more during this period;
-
Cut your water heating bills. Sunlight is free, so once the system is installed you can expect to see reductions in your water heating bills over the course of the year;
-
Cut your carbon footprint. Solar water heating is a green, renewable heating system and will help you to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions from your home.
Our systems are based on our own flat plate collector (or panel) which has been manufactured at our factory in South Wales since 1981. Based on a high efficiency stainless steel absorber plate, the collector is widely regarded as one of the most effective, reliable and long lasting solar panels available.
Key features of the Filsol collector are as follows:
-
Stylish modular design with high energy conversion efficiency;
-
Highly durable to provide long life expectancy in UK climate;
-
Proven technology with over 29 years' successful use;
-
Available in range of sizes to facilitate optimal system design;
-
Available for 'on-roof', 'in-roof' and 'frame-mounted' installation;
-
10 year warranty as standard (expected lifetime >25 years).
Filsol solar collectors are tested to BS EN 12975 and are fully accredited under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). Details of our listing on the MCS database are available at the following link: MCS Solar Collectors.
Based on the evidence of independent Government tests, Filsol collectors have been proven to provide an average output of approximately 440kWh per m² of collector per year. A properly designed system can be expected to provide around 60%-70% of a household's annual hot water requirement, and 100% of the hot water requirement through the summer months.

The chart above shows the contribution made by a Filsol system in meeting the overall hot water energy requirement of a house in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, in an independent Government-commissioned field test. The chart shows that the solar system provided a monthly average of 76% of the household's hot water requirement, providing almost all of the hot water requirements between April and October.

Filsol collectors have been installed in domestic, public sector and commercial buildings throughout the UK for over 29 years, with many of the early solar water heating installations still operating effectively today.
Filsol have been instrumental in the development of the solar energy industry in the UK for over two decades. The Filsol brand is especially well known in the public sector - particularly with local authorities and Housing Associations - where the brand has become synonymous with a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
Today thousands of Filsol systems are providing clean, 'green' solar heated water in buildings throughout the UK.
