£45 Million New Money for LCBP Grant Scheme
25 June 2009

Following the Budget announcement on 22 April 2009, an additional £45 million of funding has been allocated to the Low Carbon Buildings Programme (LCBP) to provide capital grant funding for the installation of microgeneration technologies including solar water heating and solar photovoltaic (PV).

LCBP Phase 1 - for homeowners - will receive an additional £10 million of funding, with the current programme being extended from July 2010 to April 2011.

The remaining £35 million of the new money has been allocated to Phase 2 of the LCBP scheme through which organisations in the UK public and not-for-profit sectors are able to access grants of up to 50% of the total purchase and installation costs of eligible systems. This means that the programme which had been due to close on 30 June this year will now be extended until April 2011.

Since the launch of the LCBP Phase 2 scheme in December 2006, Filsol has operated as the lead partner in the Solar Microgeneration Limited (SML) consortium who were appointed by the Government as a 'Framework Supplier' for the programme. In this role, Filsol's solar energy systems have been subject to grants of up to 50% of the total purchase and installation costs.

SML has now emerged as the UK's leading provider of solar water heating systems to housing associations, RSLs and the public sector, accounting for over 65% of the total LCBP Phase 2 funding available for this technology. In the last two years, Filsol solar collectors have been specified for over 60 social housing schemes and on more than 50 public sector buildings across the UK. By the end of June 2009, total grant funding allocated to SML projects had reached more than £3 million .

Filsol's solar energy systems and nationwide network of installers are fully accredited under the terms of the extended LCBP Phase 2 scheme, meaning that our solar water heating and solar photovoltaic (PV) systems are still eligible for grants of up to 50% of the total purchase and installation costs.
