MPs Back Feed-In Tariffs for Solar PV22 June 2009
|
The UK solar energy industry received a welcome boost last week as 240 MPs signed a parliamentary motion supporting the mass roll-out of solar photovoltaic (PV) power through the introduction of feed-in tariffs.
Colin Challen MP, who tabled the motion, said: "There is an enormous opportunity to drive forward this technology through the forthcoming feed-in tariffs."
Feed-in tariffs work by paying a guaranteed, above-market price for electricity fed into the grid for a period of 20-25 years. Similar schemes have been used succesfully in dozens of countries over the last ten years, and have been critical in the development of the solar electricity markets globally.
